The expected iPhone 13 package.. See the specifications and prices
The iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max were unveiled on September 14, 2021 by Apple. The American giant has reduced the notch, increased the size of the batteries, and focused on photography. Release date, price, technical sheet… here is everything we know about the latest iPhones.
The launch of the “iPhone 13” series took place during the traditional keynote in September 2021. During the presentation, Tim Cook and Apple employees also lifted the veil on two new iPads, an iPad mini 5G and a iPad 9, and the Apple Watch Series 7.

WHAT PERFORMANCE?
The Bionic A15 SoC is manufactured using a 5nm + etching process. According to Apple, its A15 chip uses 6 cores, 2 high performance cores and 4 low power cores. Apple announces that its chip is 50% more efficient than its competitors, but we will have to wait for the tests to be sure. On the GPU side, it has 4 cores on the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, and 5 cores on the Pro models. Apple promises 30% and 50% higher performance respectively. The 16 Neural Engine cores would also be capable of performing 15.8 trillion operations per second.
The iPhone 13s are 5G compatible thanks to the presence of a Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 modem. This modem is capable of simultaneously combining millimeter 5G (mmWave) and 5G below 6 GHz to provide both high speed and good coverage to users.
The iPhone 13 benefits from the new WiFi 6E standard, the main interest of which is to add a third frequency band to this technology, the 6 GHz joining the 2.4 and 5 GHz to declutter the latter. This standard promises a more stable connection, faster throughput (up to 11 Gb / s) and reduced latency. Again, not all countries are at the same level. In the US, WiFi 6E is useful because 6 GHz is available. Note that WiFi 6E was validated by the European Commission in July. Apple should therefore offer WiFi 6E to iPhone 13s sold in France.
iPhone 13 series battery life revealed
Apple promises significant improvements in terms of battery life this year, including an additional 1h30 on the iPhone 13 mini compared to the previous generation, and an additional 2h30 on the iPhone 13. On the Pro models, Apple also promises a gain of 1.5 hours compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, and 2.5 hours for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple did not disclose the battery sizes. So far, here are the battery size estimates for each model:
iPhone 13 Mini : 2406 mAh
iPhone 13 : 3095 mAh
iPhone 13 Pro : 3095 mAh
iPhone 13 Pro Max : 4352 mAh
IPHONE 13 CAMERA
On the sensor side, Apple is betting on a new 12 MP sensor with a focal length of 26 mm for its iPhone 13 and 13 mini, capable of capturing 47% more light. At its side, there is a new ultra wide-angle 12 MP with a field of view of 120 degrees, and with a focal length of 13 mm. Unsurprisingly, the Lidar scanner is reserved for the more expensive versions of the iPhone 13, in this case the Pro models.
The optical image stabilization Sensor Shift, which benefited only the iPhone 12 Pro Max, also appears on the lower models on the iPhone 13. As a reminder, it is a system based on the ultra large sensor -angle, which acts like a gimbal and able to move to follow the action at best without tremors.
The ultra-wide-angle sensor is also entitled to a complete overhaul, but its aperture remains at f / 2.4. Last novelty for this specific lens, it receives an autofocus feature, absent until now. These additions have prompted Apple to revise the size of the photo block upwards.
But suddenly, how the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will stand out in photos if the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini catch up on all points? These two references are entitled to XXL photo sensors, with an aperture of f / 1.5 more interesting for light management. They should therefore show better capabilities in photos in poor light conditions. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max offer a new wide-angle sensor this year that offers huge individual 1.9 micron pixels, perfect for night shots. This year, all cameras are compatible with “Night Mode”, which allows better performance in low light. Apple promises 2.2x higher performance compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, and 1.5x higher compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max also benefit from a new ultra-wide-angle sensor with an aperture of f / 1.8, which promises to capture 92% more light compared to that of the previous generation. It also brings Autofocus, an iPhone first for this sensor. The latter also makes it possible to capture photos in Macro mode at a distance of only 2 centimeters from the subject.
Smartphones also use a new 77mm telephoto lens allowing users to get closer to their subjects while recording videos and taking even more classic framing portraits, offering 3x optical zoom for a full 6x optical zoom range on the camera. camera system.
Finally, the iPhone will remain undisputed champions of video, their real strength compared to high-end Android mobiles. Apple announces that it will for example be possible to change the bokeh after a video has been captured, a first on a smartphone. To make it easier to record videos, Apple launched the Smart Cinematic Mode that switches between front focus and background depending on what's going on in the frame of the image. It “anticipates how an important new topic will come into the picture and takes stock of it at the right time”,
In addition, smartphones will offer for the first time Portrait mode on videos, until then reserved for photos. This feature is accompanied by the presence of a new format, ProRes, which allows movies to be recorded in very high definition, but this will be introduced later.
IOS 15 Overview
Apple unveiled the new features of the iOS 15 update during WWDC in early June 2021. The update marks the arrival of a function called “SharePlay” on FaceTime, an option simply called “Focus” which allows you to mute some notifications and a new Weather app. The update will be deployed on September 20, 2021. It will be installed on all iPhone 13s when they leave the factory.
